Aap Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and activists took out a protest rally on Adani-Hindenburg row and Gautam Adani’s alleged association with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kolkata on Sunday. Members of the party were demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into the financial irregularities allegations against the Adani Group. The protest rally started on Sunday afternoon from Wellington Square and was scheduled to reach the BJP state headquarters on Murlidhar Sen Street. However, the procession stopped close to Calcutta University at College Street.

AAP’s official Twitter handle of the Kolkata Office said, “AAP organised a rally in Kolkata to protest against the alleged association between the Modi government and the Adani as exposed in the report by Hindenburg Research.”

It also added that the protests were followed by a demonstration outside the state party office of the BJP.

Participants in the protest and rally alleged that the Narendra Modi-led government favoured Adani Group in multiple infrastructure projects, reported PTI.

After the Hindenburg Research report on Adani Group, the company shares have been experience volatile market situations.

The protestors who participated in the rally also said that loans were extended to the Adani Group by PSU banks and the LIC. This resulted in the exposure of the general public’s savings to market volatility in the country.

According to a PTI report, one of the participating leaders in the rally said, “We want a thorough probe into the Adani Group's finances and for that, a JPC must be set up.”

Later, the rally dispersed following an address by the participants close to Calcutta Univesity at College Street, which is about 500 metres away from the BJP state office.

Meanwhile, similar protests against the Adani Group were witnessed in other states and union territories such as Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Jammu and Kashmir etc.

For instance, AAP’s Twitter handle tweeted, “Huge protests by the people of J&K carried out against "Modi-Adani Scam" today. J&K Police arrested AAP leaders for protesting peacefully against Modi-Adani nexus at BJP HQ, Srinagar.”
